The hopper capacity is 44.5 cu metres, and the wagon is carried on standard Soviet 18-100 bogies. The wagon was filmed at Kiev in a rake of similar vehicles in July 1998.

One of the greatest problems facing the modeller has been to obtain details on Soviet freight stock. For a comprehensive collection of Soviet wagon drawings, go to :-

            http://www.1520mm.com/r/w/

It is a Russian language site, but easy to navigate, and there are loads of wagon plans, organized by type.  Also on this site is the Russian wagon-numbering system. This is explained in Russian, but we will put an English explanation on this site as soon as possible.

Another site with photos of the exterior and INTERIORS of wagons is :-

             http://wwwwin.plus.net/pp/kgr/pr02/prvag21.html

This is part of a commercial site, but provides data not available elsewhere.

For the Modeller

In HO there are several different options open to the modeller. One is to “kitbash” suitable US or European models to create a reasonable approximation of Soviet prototypes. Chris White of “Red Star Railways” recommends the Frateschi drop-bottom open wagon, which is of a South American prototype. These wagons are available in the US and the UK.  Chris tells me he has managed to produce wagons of types 12-37 and 12-132 from the Frateschi model.

Jouni Rautiainen of Finland works with Feniks, a small scale producer of ex Soviet freight stock in Finland. Their website is    www.saunalahti.fi/ries

From photos on the site, these look to be beautifully produced models. The main dealer is Red Star Railways.

Brawa of Germany have recently announced a limited range of Russian stock in HO, including a compressed propane tank and a bogie open. These wagons are listed as due in the last quarter of 2001.
