Seldom seen in the West, and virtually unknown, the wooden
cutting board was a traditional feature of the Russian or Ukrainian kitchen,
and with the national love of decoration, provided another opportunity for the
artist. As with spoons and plates, the most beautiful examples were far too
good to cut food on, so were hung in sets of three from a wooden rail in the
kitchen, hence the hole in the corner ! Each board received an individual hand
painted design. The full set of three
boards and hanging rail makes a wonderful decorative touch for your kitchen or
dining room.
