Russian
Dolls (Page 1)
Unlike
the Matryoskha doll, which has been a part of Russian culture since the 19th
century, the Porcelain Bisque costume doll is more recent, but is in the
Russian custom of blending old and new, as she is dressed in traditional costume.
This can vary from Russian or Ukrainian peasant dress to the finery of a
Boyarinya (or noblewoman).
The
Costume doll provides a unique opportunity to acquire a delightful collection
of carefully crafted dolls which recapture Russia’s colourful Past. The costume
will vary depending on the region and social status of the girl, but will
include the Kокошник-[Kokoshnik - traditional hat], or Косынка-[Kosynka -
triangular scarf], the Рубашка-[Rubashka - blouse], and Сарафан-[Sarafan - or
dress]. The dolls are produced by the celebrated Потешный промысел (Poteshnyi Promysel) enterprise in
Russia.
Before
ordering, we suggest you e-mail us to check if the doll you like is still
available. Please state the reference number of the doll you would like to order.
If she has already gone, we will see if we can obtain a similar doll for you. The letter H after the reference number indicates that she has
hands, so is a little more expensive.
